Overcoming Writer’s Block With A Game
If you are operating a business that requires writing, it is likely that you probably have problems with the dreaded writer’s block some times. Whenever this happens to me, in my internet marketing coaching business, I’ve discovered that the easiest way to get writing again is to take myself out of the familiar environment and go and work some place else like a cafe or the library.
In spite of this, at times even that does not work and I want something further to get me going. So, I make motivation techniques into a fun game.
4th Bookshelf Down
The Intention:
To get over writer’s block and write down a complete article no matter how skillful or flawed I judge it to be.
The Location:
A community library, bookshop or the book-shelves in your home.
The Game:
Decide exactly how long you’ll write for but do not make it greater than forty five minutes.
Head to the bookcase where lots of your favourite books are stored and select the book that is on the fourth shelf down and 20 books from the left. Regardless of what it is, use it as your inspiration for writing.
You can use the name as an inspiration or open to a arbitrary page and choose a particular paragraph. If you select to use a paragraph decide which paragraph on which page, or maybe simply choose a page number and use the paragraph where your gaze initially falls. I prefer to keep it straightforward and just settle for the title. But the important point is to choose what you’ll do prior to when you begin and subsequently follow it. Do not change your mind when you get to the book. Just read and begin writing.
It does not need to make sense or even be about the topic you have just read. The point is to simply commence writing and don’t stop until your allotted time is up. If you achieve that your imaginitive juices will be flowing and you will be ready to write “for real”.
I’ve written countless excellent content pieces using this method but that’s a bonus. The main purpose is to get over the block and start writing.
