Lead generation is a key factor in any successful company. If you run an Internet based company, you may not be making phone calls or having personal interaction with people, although you may. Society today uses the Internet for a large portion of business development, so you need to be familiar with the ways that the Internet can assist in leveraging your traffic and generating leads for your company.

Lead generation in and of itself is not much help to you as you attempt to grow your business. Now, how can this be, you are probably asking? It is because you don’t want to have leads that are non-motivated or not interested in what you have to say or sell —you must want to have qualified leads. Non-targeted leads are extremely expensive and will not really bring you quality customers in most cases.

Somebody who has a high chance of doing business with you is a qualified lead, namely someone who after you talk to them or they visit your website or some other form of contact is motivated to do business with you. While it is true that not all qualified leads will become a new customer, the majority of them will. Many of them who don’t do business with you today will at a later date—so, when you have built up a collection of qualified leads who haven’t done business with you yet, you can still use them for future business leads.

Now, how do you go about using lead generation techniques to get the qualified leads that you desire?

1. A qualified lead is not only somebody who likes you—although that is important—but is also somebody who you truly can help. So, you must make your website and your marketing efforts very clear and well-defined concerning what you offer. Spell out exactly what you are all about and how you help your clients. Those who can use you will want more information, the rest will just not bother wasting your time or theirs.

2. You can spend money and use pay-per-click (ppc) ads to get qualified leads to your site. PPC ads don’t have to be paid for unless somebody clicks through to your website from one of them. Your PPC ads appear around the Internet at websites, blogs, search engine results pages, based on the key words you use — meaning the people who click on your ads are searching for something relating to your business.

3. Place articles and videos anywhere you can find related sites that allow free publishing of content. Show off your expertise and give information that demonstrates you to be generous in what you do; people who are interested will come to your site pre-qualified as potential leads.

4. Make posts on social networds groups that have some connection or relevance to your company. These will work similarly to the articles and videos. When posting, seek to help someone with your post, as opposed to a hard sell or sales pitch posting.

Lead generation is not too difficult as long as you only go after qualified leads—and as long as you are willing to be persistent until you get business flowing.
